It is the wrong tier for any workload that does not need its specific shape — the EPYC-based DS Pro matches most production-grade NGO and investigative-consortium workloads at roughly half the monthly invoice. DS Beast is honest only when the workload genuinely requires its capacity; we would rather move a customer down to DS Pro than carry them on a machine they do not need. What the operator sees, and what it does not

On DS Beast, the bare-metal posture established by DS Lite compounds with the consortium-scale workload model. Many consortium-scale customers run an additional hypervisor layer themselves (Proxmox, VMware, KVM with libvirt) so that member organisations operate inside guest VMs the consortium itself controls; that layer is a customer decision and the operator does not require it. The four-hundred-gigabit DDoS shield is operated upstream and produces post-incident reports for the customer; attack-traffic data is not retained beyond the operational response window.

Full disk encryption is recommended for any workload where it matters; the four-NVMe RAID-10 layout means a single drive failure does not interrupt service and a second-drive failure (in the right pair) is survivable. We replace failed drives without taking the machine offline and the rebuild proceeds in the background.
