Email service

Mail Team

Mail Team is a five-mailbox offshore email plan — fifty gigabytes of total storage, shared address book, shared calendar, custom-domain support on a single domain, anti-spam (rspamd), anonymous signup. It exists for small newsroom teams, NGO IT leads consolidating five collaborators on one mail domain, and family-of-dissidents groups needing a unified offshore mail surface.

Who this plan suits

A small newsroom team of three-to-five contributors sharing a published-name domain, an NGO IT lead consolidating five staff on one offshore mail surface for a regional chapter, a family of activists whose threat model places weight on having all of their mail under a single trusted operator, a research collective whose work is published under a shared byline and whose correspondence needs to follow that byline. The shared address book and shared calendar matter for collaboration — they are the differentiator from Mail Solo.

It is undersized for an organisation running its own mailhost across multiple domains — Mail Unlimited covers the multi-domain case. It is the wrong tier for a single individual whose correspondence is wholly individual; Mail Solo at a third of the price is the honest answer there. The five-mailbox cap is a working ceiling, not an arbitrary quota: it covers the small-team case without bleeding into organisation-scale operational complexity.

Where this plan can be operated

Mail Team can be deployed in Iceland or Switzerland. For a small newsroom team, Iceland's mail-server jurisprudence — built on the IMMI framework and the press-freedom posture established by Resolution 23/138 — is the conservative answer when the team's published work is the kind that attracts press-suppression attention. Switzerland's mail-jurisprudence rests on the revFADP and on ProtonMail v UVEK A-550/2019; both jurisdictions reject fishing-expedition disclosure.

The practical consideration for a team mail deployment is reader-correspondent latency: where the team's correspondents sit in central Europe, Switzerland gives 10-20ms IMAP latency for most check-mail operations; where they sit broadly distributed, Iceland's 30-50ms is operationally indistinguishable. The custom-domain support means the public-facing mail surface need not reflect the operator's domain — a team can operate [email protected] from either jurisdiction while keeping its operating identity and its publishing identity separate.

What the operator sees, and what it does not

The operator's metadata surface on Mail Team is identical to Mail Solo, scaled to five mailboxes: envelope metadata of in-flight mail, IMAP login IP and timestamps, billing metadata, stored-mail volume per mailbox. The shared address book and shared calendar are stored in the same way — the operator sees the size of the address-book and calendar databases but not their contents (CalDAV and CardDAV both run over TLS to the client, and the data at rest can be configured for client-side encryption where the team has the operational discipline to do so).

What we cannot see remains the same set: PGP-encrypted message bodies, TLS-protected SMTP from cooperating mailhosts, in-memory state on the IMAP server, the relationship between the billing identity and the mailbox identities. The team's choice of correspondence-discipline determines how much of the residual envelope-metadata surface matters in practice — a team that habitually uses PGP for sensitive correspondence narrows the operator's residual visibility considerably. Payment in Monero, Lightning, on-chain Bitcoin, or cash.
